Honduras - Ariel Funez - Natural
Region: Comayagua
Elevation: 1650 meters
Cultivar: Lempira, Catuai
Process: Anaerobic Natural
Notes: Wild Raspberry, Dark Chocolate, Pomegranate, Red Wine, Candied Lemon
---------------------------------------------------
In 2024, Hyperion enters its third year working with Ariel Funez, an emerging third-generation coffee farmer. After years of struggling to find an outlet for his coffee, Ariel has expanded his partnership with Hyperion to include various coffee processes such as washed, natural Pacamara, and honey processed microlots.
Ariel has taken a leadership role in his community, aiming to provide employment and opportunities. He recently purchased land at 2100 meters elevation to create jobs for a nearby community with limited resources, allowing them to work locally instead of traveling long distances. His vision is to use coffee as a way to uplift everyone involved. He is also committed to environmental preservation, maintaining forests around his farms.
Despite challenges, Ariel is optimistic about growing his business through direct relationships with US coffee roasters and developing new farms and varieties. He continues to compete in the Honduras Cup of Excellence, and Hyperion is excited to support his future as a leading producer in Honduras specialty coffee.
