This marks our fifth year purchasing the El Diamante Lot from Don Florencio. In March 2023, we had the privilege of visiting Florencio and the entire Villatoro family, and we're thrilled to share some of our favorite coffees from Guatemala's renowned Huehuetenango region.
Florencio Villatoro has been cultivating coffee since he was 13, initially alongside his father at Finca La Esperanza for 12 years. Eventually, his father entrusted him with a plot of land to establish his own farm, El Diamante, nestled in a secluded valley near Agua Dulce, in Huehuetenango.
Florencio and his wife Lesvia have four children—Maikel, Riner, Yelsin, and Danita—and five grandchildren. The entire family plays a vital role in the farm's operations. Despite a leg injury that once confined him to crutches, Florencio underwent successful surgery, regaining mobility and overseeing the farm alongside his son, ensuring a promising future for El Diamante.
Our partnership extends beyond purchasing coffee; it's about supporting the Villatoro family's vision. When we first bought their coffee, Florencio allocated part of the proceeds to construct a new warehouse and cupping lab. During our recent visit, we witnessed the groundbreaking for this new facility—an inspiring testament to their dedication and collaboration across every stage of the coffee production journey.
